For me, calisthenics is not just a hobby; it's more than that. It's my dream, my lifestyle, my hobby,
my goals, and many more things that I cannot describe because it would never end.
First, let's describe what calisthenics is, because I am sure that many people do not have an
idea of what it is. Calisthenics stands for working out with your own body weight; this is the
simple and basic definition of it. But if you decide to go further, you can even be able to defeat gravity.
My first encounter with this sport was at the beginning of 2020 when the pandemic started.
I used to be a tennis player, but thanks to COVID-19 and the lockdown, I was extremely bored in my house
, and I started to develop bad habits, such as eating a lot and wasting time on many things.
One day, looking at some YouTube videos, I found a person doing a planche. And from that moment,
I decided that I also wanted to do such a movement because it looks incredibly difficult and shows insane strength.
My journey started that year, and as with everything new, it was really hard at the beginning to get the conditioning
for my body since calisthenics is not like the gym. It overstresses the joints, and joint pain is much different from muscle pain.
When you are working to strengthen the joints, you face suffering much more than when you strengthen your muscles.
Therefore, when I was starting, I suffered a lot, but even with that, I never stopped.
I started building discipline with time, and each day I was getting stronger. Time passed, and I started achieving new skills and a really good body shape.
This sport not only gave me a new life, but it also gave me a new lifestyle and completely changed my mindset.
I started looking at food as a source of energy and began using it wisely, just to have enough resources to perform my activities,
and not using it just for pleasure. It gave me extreme discipline, because nowadays, I cannot stop training even for one day;
for me, that is impossible.
It has been almost 4 years since I started my amazing journey, and I am happy with what I have achieved,
but I am even happier knowing that this is just the beginning and knowing that this is just 1% of my potential.
This sport gives you the pleasure of competing against yourself, and I love that because it is just you,
and there is no other factor that can affect that; you versus you, no more. Also, since I decided to masterize the static skills,
especially the planche, I am against the strongest force in the world: gravity. Each time I am doing the planche,
I am fighting against it, and I cannot even describe the feelings, because you release a lot of energy in a short period of time,
and you feel like you are flying and defying the laws of physics, just with your arms.
I won't ever stop doing this amazing sport, and I hope one day to share it with other calisthenics enthusiasts because nowadays,
this sport is not very popular, especially here in the United States. But I am sure that in the future,
I will find more people who enjoy it and can share this amazing sport with me. When you get involved in this and you like it, you won't ever stop doing it.
